Why Airthings for Business devices can not be used second hand

Updated today

Why are second-hand Business devices not supported

Devices cannot operate independently

Airthings for Business devices are often sold second-hand on their own. However, unlike our consumer devices, Business devices always require an Airthings Hub to communicate and send data to the cloud. Without a Hub that is correctly configured within an active organization, the device cannot transmit data or appear in the Airthings Dashboard.

Warranty and technical support

Airthings provides warranty and technical support only for devices purchased through official Airthings channels or authorized partners. For second-hand units, we cannot verify their condition, previous usage, or configuration, and therefore cannot guarantee performance, data accuracy, or compatibility with current software and firmware versions.

Subscription and system integration

Business devices rely on active subscriptions, integrations with Airthings Hubs, and communication with our cloud services. These connections are configured during onboarding and are tied to the original organization’s account.
Subscriptions and accounts must always be created under the name of an official organization (such as a company, institution, or registered partner). Devices bought second-hand cannot be linked to a new organization, as the necessary setup, licenses, and ownership verification cannot be transferred.

What to do if you’ve purchased or received a second-hand device

If you’ve acquired a second-hand Airthings for Business device, please contact the seller directly and ask for a refund. Unfortunately, we’re not able to create a Business account for private customers or provide support for these devices.

For private customers, we recommend buying Airthings consumer devices directly through our website.
