Connecting the Space Hub over Ethernet
The Space Hub sends data from your Airthings devices to the cloud using either its built-in eSIM (cellular) or an Ethernet connection. Ethernet is a good choice when the Hub is placed in an area with limited cellular reception, such as a basement, or when you prefer to use your own network.
How the Hub chooses its connection
When the Hub is powered on, it connects via the built-in eSIM by default. As soon as an Ethernet cable is plugged in, the Hub switches to Ethernet mode and the cellular connection is disabled.
There is no automatic fallback to cellular. If the Ethernet connection fails, the Hub will stay offline for as long as the cable is plugged in. The cellular connection only becomes active again once the Ethernet cable is unplugged. Make sure your network is ready before connecting the cable.
Network requirements
Share the following requirements with your IT department before connecting the Hub:
DHCP: The Hub receives its IP address automatically via DHCP.
Port 443 (HTTPS): The Hub communicates with the Airthings cloud over HTTPS on port 443. Make sure your network or firewall does not block this traffic.
Whitelisted domains:
hub-api.airthin.gs
global-api.airthin.gs
iot-b.airthin.gs
pool.ntp.org:123 (UDP)
Connecting the Hub
Check the network requirements with your IT department (see above).
Test the network connection (recommended): connect a computer to the same Ethernet cable you will use for the Hub, open a browser and go to
https://hub-api.airthin.gs/. If you see the message{"message":"Connection Established"}, the connection is working.Connect the Ethernet cable to the Hub.
Power on the Hub if it is not already powered.
Check the lights: wait for the green Power light, followed by the Cloud symbol turning green. This confirms the Hub is connected to the cloud. See Space Hub: Meaning of the Lights for more details.
If the Hub does not connect
Double check the network requirements with your IT department, especially port 443 and the whitelisted domains.
Repeat the network test above with a computer on the same cable.
Try connecting the Hub to another network, such as a private or home network, to rule out network restrictions.
If Ethernet is not an option, unplug the Ethernet cable so the Hub switches back to its cellular connection.
