Space Plus, Space Pro, and Space CO₂
The light sensor in the Space Pro and Space Plus primarily detects wave gestures in front of the device. When active, the device responds to a wave gesture with:
Space Pro/Space CO₂: A change of screen display.
Space Plus: A glowing light.
This functionality relies on an IR light transmitted from the device and captured by the sensor. Interrupting the IR light path with a hand or object triggers the wave gesture detection.
The light sensor is designed to avoid general light exposure and does not have a cosine receptor to capture light from all angles.
For some users, understanding light levels can be beneficial, such as checking if office lights are on at night. To enable this, the device filters out IR light and presents visible light levels as a percentage on the Dashboard. However, exact lux values are not displayed, as readings depend on the device's orientation and light source placement.
Space CO₂ Mini and Space Nano
The Space CO₂ Mini and Space Nano present light sensor values in lux levels. Note that lux readings will vary depending on the device's position relative to the room's light sources.
Similar to other devices, the primary use case for the light sensor is to determine whether lights are on in an office at night or for similar scenarios.
